Two former Kaiso Kings not sure of competition

BARBADOS TODAY IS reporting that two big names in the calypso arena might be missing from the big Pic-O-De Crop showdown this year.

Former monarch John King yesterday announced he would not be competing in the Pic-O-De-Crop competition this year and this afternoon, eight time monarch, Stedson Red Plastic Bag Wiltshire, said he was not sure he would be competing either.

"I always feel the urge to do what my fans want me to do. I must tell you that for five years now I've lost my enthusiasm for competition, the last couple years I went into the competition that was simply because fans wanted me to a part of the competition.

"Competition puts me under tremendous stress simply because of the expectation and if I were to make a decision now I would say that I don't want to be part of it. I'm now getting my stuff finalised in the studio and I'll see how it goes.

"When the tent starts and I feel as if I want to be part of the competition for the sake of my fans, I'll consider it but right now I'd prefer to say that I'm a little ambivalent about my position as it relates to competition," he said this afternoon at a press briefing at Almond Bay Conference Centre, Christ Church.

The briefing was held by management of De Big Show to announce that the five-year-old tent had two new sponsors - Uwe Harrs Inc. and ADC Building and Maintenance Ltd.

King, who is the tent's manager, told Barbados TODAY ahead of the event that he was "totally bored with the stagnation and lack of focus which appears to be the norm in this competition".
