The Reddy Panners on to the next level

The Reddy Panners

THE REDDY PANNERS group was formed in 2004 after a number of employees of The Barbados Light and Power Company attended pan classes conducted by Carole Gooding and Kevin Culpepper of Pan Revolution at the headquarters of the National Cultural Foundation.

Repertoire: Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Gospel, Spouge.

Well known Instructors, Mervin McClean, Jason Williams and the late Glenroy “Patches” Mendoza all had a hand in the early training of the group. Current Musical Arranger and Director is Samuel Noel Harry who brings over twenty years experience to the Group. ‘Harry’ as he is well known tutors at many Schools and Churches and is also Musical Arranger and Director for Exotic Steel.

The group of twenty five is made up mostly of staff members.

The Reddy Panners commenced their career performing mainly at company functions but have since performed creditably at several external events such as the St James Parish Church Garden Tea Party, Holetown Festival, BWU May Day Celebrations, Pan Pun de Sand, Back in Time Pan to name a few. The Panners as part of Community Outreach often play for Charitable Organizations and are pleased to have entertained the residents of the Elayne Scantlebury Centre and the Thelma Vaughn Home on many occasions.

Their crowning achievement came in 2007, when they received  two silver awards at the National Festival of Creative Arts for their performances of Biggie Irie’s 'Nah Going Home’ and Mr Dale’s ‘Soka Junkie’ arranged by Samuel Harry and Jason Williams. The Group also received the Award for the ‘Most Promising Newcomer for NIFCA in Music’.

Entering NIFCA again in 2009 they copped two Bronze Awards for Red Plastic Bag’s ‘Something’s Happening’ and Gabby’s ‘In de Savannah’ arranged by Samuel Harry.
