Pyramid Entertainment adapting to change

Head of Pyramid Entertainment, Santia Bradshaw

THE CHALLENGED ECONOMY has changed the focus slightly of one artist management company, Santia Bradshaw, head of Pyramid Entertainment says her organisation is looking to get into promotions to keep her stable working.

“The dynamics of the industry are changing and as always we’re changing with them,” she told cropoverbarbados.com as she spoke about her expectations of the season: “This year more than ever things are going to be harder in terms of the whole global recession, people are looking for events where they may not have to spend as much money, they’re watching where and how they spend their money.”

With reference to the changes on the calendar of the national festival which is managed by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) she commented specifically on the cavalcades which have been reduced to four and dubbed the LIME/HOTT 95.3 Fantastic Four Cavalcades, “I wish there were more cavalcades, more opportunities for performances,” she lamented. She lauded the artistes for releasing their music early and she noted the quality was generally good.

“I think as artists and people within the industry we’ve learned to adapt with the various changes, not everything that we embrace, we’ve been able to evolve as the industry evolves as well. For us right now we focus heavily on the international market and the regional market; even though a lot of what happens in Barbados is very important a lot of the emphasis on outside of Barbados.”

The Pyramid roster which includes Peter Ram and Biggie Irie has now added Skinny Fabulous to the line-up, the St. Vincent based performer known for the monster hit Head Bad has been burning up the charts recently with the tracks Duracell (Charge Up) on the Hunny Bunny riddim produced by Alex Kubiashi Barnwell and Bumper In Troubleon the Kickback riddim produced by Adam "King Bubba" Elias.

Earlier this year he was among the nominees for the 29th International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA), getting recognition for his performances in 2009. He also joined fellow nominees Fay Ann Lyons, Edwin Yearwood, Machel Montano and Alison Hinds in the category for Best Calypso/Soca Entertainer. He is also featured on Montano’s most recent album - Album 34 the two combined on Fetting On.

Meanwhile, 2010 releases are coming fast and furious notably from L’il Rick who dropped What A Feeling produced by Dwayne Antrobus and Happy Feet from his brood the Hypa Kidz.

Peter Ram has several releases including Blackberry produced by Grenada's own Linwall Patterson and  Iron Manon the Hunny Bunny riddim while Biggie Irie's latest track is on the Tone Def riddim produced by Andy Armstrong and entitled Leave She Alone.
