THE NATIONAL CULTURAL FOUNDATION (NCF) has thanked staff, stakeholders and all Barbadians who supported and participated in the just concluded 2008 Crop Over festival.
EDWIN YEARWOOD IS the 2008 Tune of the Crop winner, beating Natahlee with Sun to Sun into second place and Mikey into third with Explosion. Yearwood's song Handle Your Business was played eleven times at the judging points, while Sun to Sun was played nine times and Explosion three times.
THE POT IS BUBBLING at the Cockspur Red Hot Cohobblopot, so far there's been a dash of Bajan entertainment namely Smokey Burke, the Scotiabank Junior Monarch winner Sir Ruel, Sicky, Kimberley, Kid Site, TC, John Mohammed and Nard. The steady trickle that started from around 5:00 pm is now a flood and the ground of Kensington, protected by a neon green cover, is filled with flag raising party goers.

JUST AFTER THE Cable & Wireless/First Caribbean International Bank Pic-O-De Crop Finals, five bands and over thirty thousand people are expected to take part in the Roberts Fore Day Mornin' moving off from Pelican Village at 1:30 am. Coordinator George Nicholson says all systems are go for what is one of the most anticipated events on the Crop Over calendar.
Five bands including the Roberts Truck will leave from Pelican and move on to the Princess Alice Highway, on to Holborn Circle and on to the Spring Garden Highway.
THE NCF HAS increased its box offices making it easier to purchase tickets for the remaining Crop Over events. On Sunday, August 3 a box office will be opened at Kensington Oval from 10:00 am and will run until the gate closes.
The box office at the NCF's Headquarters, West Terrace, St. James will be opened on Friday, August 1, 2008 and Saturday, August 2, 2008 while CS Pharmacy in Bridgetown will be opened Friday until 2:00 pm. The other box offices are:

THE ANTICIPATION OF the legion of party animals which descended on Ermie Bourne Highway to witness the Mount Gay Cable and Wireless Party Monarch was answered resoundingly by the performance of Khiomal who won with 425 points, beating Mikey's 413.5 and Nathalee's 394.5. Lil Rick, last year's monarch finished fifth with 386.
THE 2008 PIC-O-DE Crop winner will be driving away a brand new Toyota Corolla valued at $70 000. The car comes with free insurance from CGI and a rust arrestor package from Motormac. The keys for the vehicle were officially handed over to Chairman of the NCF Ken Knight at the NASSCO headquarters recently. Mr. Knight lauded the official distributors of Toyota for their unwavering support for the festival and pledged the NCF's commitment to making Crop Over better than ever.

TO SCREAMS OF approval, 18-year old Chad Holder, better known as Sir Ruel, was declared the winner of the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Finals in association with A & B Music Supplies. Performing the Red Plastic Bag penned A Party Song, the student of the Learning Centre swept aside the competition with the uptempo number. The song was arranged by Mark Husbands.
THE STAGE IS set for the Mount Gay/Cable & Wireless Party Monarch Finals for Sunday, July 27 on the Ermy Bourne Highway starting at 11:00 am. The 20 drew their position at the NCF on Saturday morning, July 19. They come up against reigning monarch Lil Rick form Headliners Tent.
THE DRAW FOR the Cable & Wireless/ First Caribbean International Bank Semi-Finals was held Saturday morning, July 19 at the National Cultural Foundation. The eighteen were announced in the wee hours of Saturday morning after the final tent, the Celebrity Tent, was judged on Friday, July 18. There was a tie at position 18, both are included in the semi-finals competition. There is no reserve. The Cable & Wireless/First Caribbean International Bank Semi-Finals is scheduled for Friday, July 25 at the Garfield Sobers Gym at 7:00 pm.
ALL TCIKETS FOR the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Finals in association with A & B Music supplies have been sold.
The NCF confirmed on Thursday afternoon there were no tickets left. The event is slated for Saturday, July 19 at Sherbourne Conference Centre, at 7:00 pm.
Sixteen juniors compete for the title of Scotiabank Junior Monarch 2008. In the Junior Category Lil Az holds the 2007 title, while Rico 'Coco" Gaskin holds the 2007 title for the seniors.
Keen competition is expected.
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO'S reigning Junior Calypso Monarch Megan Walrond will be in Barbados to guest perform at the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Finals in association with A & B Music Supplies, at Sherbourne Conference Centre on Saturday, July 19 at 7:00 pm.
