Lashley new Minister of Culture

 

BARBADOS HAS A new minister of Culture, he is the Hon. Stephen Lashley, Minister of Family, Sports and Youth, culture is an addition to his portfolio.

He takes over from Steve Blackett who became Culture Minister when the Democratic Labour Party administration took over the reins of government in 2008, Blackett is now Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development.

Lashley’s work experience includes having been a Sub-editor, a News Reporter, a News Presenter, Current Affairs Producer and Presenter - with various media of communication and media houses. 

He also worked as a Public Relations Officer with the Government Information Service, where he provided PR guidance to the Ministries of Education, Health and the Office of the Attorney-General & Home Affairs. 

Before elective politics he was an Attorney-at-Law and was been in private practice for over ten (10) years. 

He is also a former President and Director of the Barbados Public Workers' Cooperative Credit Union Limited.

In his capacity as Minister of Family, Sports and Youth urged songwriters, performers and young people in general to “come clean” with their music for the 2010 Crop Over season.

The Minister, who was speaking at the Lodge School graduation in June, reportedly expressed concern about the lyrical content of some of the musical offerings which he said were overly sexually suggestive and not worthy of airplay.

The Minister is expected to be attendance at the official launch of NIFCA at the Hilton Barbados at 7:00 pm, on Wednesday, October 06.
