Changes to the Pork Limes

THERE WILL BE some changes when the Pork Limes come to roast this year.

Contact band leader Anthony Layne said at a press conference this afternoon that in response to complaints from residents in surrounding areas, all live music will end 12:30 a.m. instead of carrying on to the event's 3 a.m. finish.

"What we have decided is that the Pork Limes will start at 5 as usual and will run until 3, but this year, we will finish all live entertainment at 12:30 a.m., [including] DJs on the mic...

"After 12:30, the music will be reduced significantly where we will still have music going so that the patrons here will still have a good time and enjoy themselves, but it will not be loud at all," he said at the LIME Sports pavilion.

Pork Limes will begin this Friday, June 3 and will run until August 26, except for July 26, the night of the Pic-O'-De-Crop finals.

The organisers of the popular event, which attracted around 3,000 to 4,000 patrons, will also pay closer attention to crowd control, with restricting entrance a possibility they were willing to explore if the size became too large.

Fewer food stalls will be accommodating the scores of people, Layne also said, after a decision was made to "free up more space", and instead of seven food stalls, there will be five. However, a sweet variety stall has been added to the offering.

Karaoke sessions will also be included from next week, in order to provide entertainment to early patrons, the Contact band leader stated.

The band will be launching next Friday as well.

During the season, Layne urged patrons to practice proper parking habits.

"Even on the road and on the lay bys, it gives the other drivers coming down the hill [problems] so we are asking all patrons when they are parking to use some consideration, so it would be less of a hassle," he said.
