CDC looking forward to great mas in Vincy

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO) of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Ashford Wood is looking forward to a great 2011 carnival season.

Speaking at a recent press conference he said the marketing team is working very hard to get out the message about Vincy Mass and as part of their marketing strategy they have distributed view cards, posters and brochures with activities and the dates.

He added that the materials were not only distributed locally but regionally and internationally. He has appealed to SVG businesses to decorate their work places, “so as to give the whole city a carnival lift.”

Wood also spoke of the rural activities on the calendar noting that last Saturday’s launch of the Upstage Calypso Tent at South Rivers was good. He said the CDC is pleased and commends the rural effort to have calypso on the calendar.

“This will breathe new life into the art form and hopefully by the time we get to the finals this may have stimulated interest and can help improve attendance at the shows”, he said.

He added that the CDC is hoping to stage the calypso semi-finals at a different venue this year;  it is usually held at the Victoria Park.

In previous comments Wood had appealed to revelers wanting to jump alongside trucks to give consideration to the flow of traffic.

He also gave kudos to the mas bands stating, “Most of the mas bands have launched and they look good and are being displayed on the CDC’s website www.carnivalsvg.com.”

“Our costumes remain the cheapest yet the most attractive in the Caribbean,” said Wood who encouraged persons to, “register and make your choice early as to aid with the production”.

He also urged persons to visit the rural carnivals as the CDC continues to work with private groups that help to bring entertainment to the festival.
