WINNING THE 2008 Cable & Wireless First Caribbean Pic-O-De Crop Finals on Friday, August 01 is still a dream for Adrian Clarke, such a good dream that he overslept and nearly missed a breakfast meeting with local, regional and international journalists at the Hilton Hotel the next morning.

Adrian Clarke is the Cable & Wireless/First Caribbean International Bank Calypso Monarch. When you're on you're on even in accepting the crown Adrian Clarke delights his audience with some witty extempo about his victory. Congrats King Adrian Clarke!

 

In order of Appearance: Pic-O-De Crop Semi-Finalists 2008

THE DRAW FOR the Cable & Wireless/ First Caribbean International Bank Semi-Finals was held Saturday morning, July 19 at the National Cultural Foundation. The eighteen were announced in the wee hours of Saturday morning after the final tent, the Celebrity Tent, was judged on Friday, July 18. There was a tie at position 18, both are included in the semi-finals competition. There is no reserve. The Cable & Wireless/First Caribbean International Bank Semi-Finals is scheduled for Friday, July 25 at the Garfield Sobers Gym at 7:00 pm.

 

In order of Appearance: Party Monarch Finalists 2008

THE STAGE IS set for the Mount Gay/Cable & Wireless Party Monarch Finals for Sunday, July 27 on the Ermy Bourne Highway starting at 11:00 am. The 20 drew their position at the NCF on Saturday morning, July 19. They come up against reigning monarch Lil Rick form Headliners Tent.

 

Official Tickets Now on Sale

TICKETS FOR SELECT CROP OVER events are now on sale and at specific locations. The NCF announced today that tickets for the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Finals in association with A & B Music Supplies and IGM Stage Lighting, the Crop Over Folk Concert and the Cable & Wireless/First Caribbean International Bank Pic-O-De-Crop Semi-Finals are now on sale at the NCF Headquarters in West Terrace and CS Pharmacy Bridgetown.

 

Scotiabank Junior Monarch

THERE ARE OVER Twenty candidates for this year’s Scotiabank Junior Monarch Competition in the 8-12 and 13-18 category.  They made their first appearance for the season at the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Tent in association with A & B Music Supplies. The Lester Vaughan School had standing room only, packed with parents, teachers, supporters and sponsors.

 

RPB is Ready!

I AM READY! That’s the warning reigning calypso monarch Red Plastic Bag threw out  at the penultimate Banks/Cable & Wireless Cavalcades at the James Bryant Complex in Market Hill, St. George. The eight time calypso king said he was looking forward to keen competition on Friday, August 01.

Judgement Day Is Here!

HOUSE OF SOCA is the first tent to face the judges this Crop Over season. The draw for the order of judging for tents participating in the Cable & Wireless Pic-O-De Crop Finals (PODC) and Mount Gay/Cable & Wireless Party Monarch (PM) Finals took place at the National Cultural Foundation Headquarters on Monday 16 June. Tent Origins



The calypso tent originated in Trinidad, when calypso performances took place in the shelter of bamboo structures called "tents". Today the word refers to a group or organisation whose focus is the production and performance of calypso; it also refers to the performance itself.
